Physiotherapy, also known as Physical Therapy, is a form of treatment and rehabilitation that is aimed at restoring the body’s movement and function back to normal or near-normal, after being affected by an illness or injury— no matter what age you are or how active you were. Using a wide range of treatment modalities, such as manual therapy, exercises, and electrotherapy, physiotherapy can help you get back on your feet and achieve your optimal level of function once again.

From diagnosis to prognosis, we will guide you every step of the way through client education, inclusion, and active participation. This helps you understand your own body and the root cause of the symptoms, so that prevention and self-management are possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a family doctor's prescription for physiotherapy treatment?

No, you do not. The only time you may need a prescription is if your extended insurance carrier requires you to have on, and you intend on billing your treatments through an extended health care coverage plan.

What should I expect on my physical therapy first visit?

Upon arrival, our physiotherapist will assess you and will either request further diagnostics or recommend a care plan that is specific for you and your injury/ailment. Upon consent, your treatment would start immediately or on your preferred schedule.

What injuries can our physiotherapist treat?

  • Neck/Back Pain
  • Arthritis
  • Whiplash and Car Accident Injuries
  • Carpal Tunnel
  • Chronic pain management
  • Frozen shoulder/shoulder pain
  • Pregnancy-related joint and muscle issues
  • Strains/Sprains
  • Tendonitis/Tendonosis
  • Vertigo and Vestibular dysfunction, imbalance
  • Post-Fracture or post surgical rehabilitation
  • Pelvic Floor Weakness

How long are the Physiotherapy treatment sessions?

The first assessment and treatment can be anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes. Following treatments/sessions are usually around 20 minutes.

What is Dry Needling (IMS)?

In Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS), small, thin needles, similar to acupuncture needles, are inserted into tense or painful muscles. When inserted into a specific trigger point on the muscle, the needle causes the muscle to flex and contract, releasing the tension within the muscle and relieving any pain associated with the tension.

What is the difference between physiotherapy and massage therapy?

Physiotherapy is a medical practice where a trained physiotherapist uses a variety of movement techniques and tools in order to assess, diagnose, and treat any number of musculoskeletal and movement conditions. Physiotherapy is often recommended for patients to recover from injuries, surgery, or other chronic conditions.
Massage therapy involves a trained massage therapist using their fingers, hands, elbows, as well as special massage therapy tools to work the tension out of the muscle. These techniques are intended to improve blood circulation, release muscle knots or trigger points, enhance flexibility, and induce a sense of relaxation and stress reduction.

Is physiotherapy painful?

During physiotherapy, pain can vary depending on several factors, including the individual's condition, treatment techniques used, and personal pain tolerance. While some physiotherapy techniques or exercises may cause temporary discomfort or mild soreness, it is important to note that physiotherapy is generally aimed at reducing pain and improving overall function.

It is essential to communicate openly with your physiotherapist about your pain levels and any concerns you may have. They can modify techniques, adjust treatment plans, or provide additional support to manage discomfort during your sessions.

Can physiotherapy help with sports injuries?

Yes, physiotherapy can be highly beneficial in the management and rehabilitation of sports injuries. Sports injuries can vary widely in their nature and severity, ranging from sprains and strains to more complex conditions like ligament tears or fractures. Physiotherapists with expertise in sports injury management play a crucial role in the recovery process of athletes and individuals involved in sports.

Physiotherapists design individualized treatment plans, including stretching, strengthening exercises, balance training, and functional exercises tailored to the specific needs of the sports injury. Rehabilitation aims to restore mobility, flexibility, strength, and overall function.
